Sketches - Celebrity Supporters Sketch for Survival Campaign
Our Sketch for Survival campaign is based on the idea of asking artists, celebrities, explorers, sportspeople & other high profile individuals for a simple 15 minute sketch of an endangered animal to show their support for conservation without impinging on their time or livelihood. The objective is raise as much money as possible for conservation. 15 is a significant number with one elephant being killed on average every 15 minutes.
Profits with split evenly between The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) and Animals saving Animals (ASA) unless otherwise marked on the individual lots. Please support them and our charities by bidding generously.
Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE
Sir Ranulph Fiennes is one of the world's greatest explorers, having visited both poles and Everest amongst other destinations. We are thrilled that he will be talking at our Explorers event and is supporting our Sketch for Survival campaign.
Colonel Blashford-Snell has led hundreds of expeditions over the years including explorations of the Blue Nile and Congo rivers. He will be talking about some of his many encounters with wildlife at our Explorers evening and is supporting our sketch campaign with this wonderful cartoon.
Cricketer Kevin Pietersen is a dedicated supporter of conservation issues, specifically the protection of black and white rhinos. We're delighted to have his support in our sketch campaign with his own rhino sketch and by generating awareness through his social media accounts.
Levison Wood is a best selling author, explorer and photographer. He has covered stories and events around the world for over ten years. His work has featured in international publications around the world including Channel 4, the BBC, National Geographic, Discovery Channel and the Sunday Telegraph. In 2014 he completed a nine month expedition walking the length of the Nile and in 2015 he walked the length of the Himalayas.
Watercolour. Dame Judi Dench is one of the UK's most famous and successful actresses. She has been nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning once. A keen painter we are delighted that she has donated a watercolour to our Sketch for Survival campaign.
Stephen Fry is an English writer, actor, comedian and presenter. His TV work has ranged from "Blackadder" to "Kingdom" and includes the series "Last chance to see", co-presented with the zoologist Mark Carwardine, about several endangered species which they sought out around the world.
Charlie Boorman is a modern-day adventurer, travel writer and entertainer. His charismatic “let’s just do it” approach to challenges has won him over to a massive TV and literary audience. In 2004 he joined forces with actor Ewen McGregor for “Long Way Round”, a motorcycle trip from London to New York via Europe and Asia, which became an iconic television series, book and DVD. Many more successful adventures have followed since then.
Ash Bhardwaj is an adventure filmmaker and travel writer. His assignments have included travelling to Everest with wounded British soldiers, meeting the Area Boys of Lagos in Nigeria and trekking through Sudan’s Bayuda Desert. He has presented on C4 and Sky and is a well respected print journalist.
Dr George McGavin is an explorer, entomologist, zoologist and well-known TV presenter. He is an Honorary Research Associate at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History and a Research Associate of The Department of Zoology of Oxford University. His research has taken him from the tropical forests of Papua New Guinea to the caves of Thailand and from the jungles of Belize to the savannas of Tanzania and has several insect species named after him.
Alastair is an adventurer and author who has completed expeditions such as cycling round the world, walking across India and rowing the Atlantic, Alastair was named as a National Geographic Adventurer of the Year for his pioneering work on the concept of microadventures.
Fern is a well known TV presenter who has worked on, among st other things, Ready, Steady, Cook, Fern Britton Meets.., For what its Worth and Culinary Genius. She has also been on Strictly Come Dancing.
Elizabeth is an internationally renowned fashion designer known for her chic and modern designs. She makes frequent appearances on televison including Project Catwalk and Britain's Next Top Model. Her clients include Diana Princess of Wales, Elizabeth Taylor, Darcy Bussell and Joss Stone.
Gillian is a biologist who recently joined the Springwatch 2017 line-up as a regular presenter. She is now looking ahead to Autumnwatch 2017 and bringing more compelling British wildlife stories to our screens. She has also worked on several Animal Planet and Discovery Channel series.
Pip is an adventurer and film-maker. She worked in Hong Kong as an anchor and her journey home to the UK to take up her current role as the Adventure Editor for Red Bull Online, was an epic year-long 10,000 mile biking trek starting in Kuala Lumpur. Her most recent expedition took her on a 3000 mile cycle, boat and terrifyingly small plane journey exploring Brazil to Peru.
Fearne Cotton is a TV presenter, DJ and designer. She is currently back in her role as team captain Celebrity Juice. Other shows include Children in Need Rocks, The Happiness Project, Fearne & Gok: Off The Rails, The BBC Music Awards, Top of the Pops with Reggie Yates, ‘Fearne and McBusted’ and a Coldplay special for Sky Art. She is a keen artist.
Leon McCarron is a Northern Irish adventurer, filmmaker and writer. His expeditions include walking 3000 miles across China, filmed for the Nat Geo series Walking Home From Mongolia and riding a bicycle 14,000 miles from New York to Hong Kong. Leon has also trekked 1000 miles across the Empty Quarter desert of Saudi Arabia.
Anne Fine OBE FRSL is a distinguished writer for both adults and children. She has won numerous awards for her writing including the Carnegie Medal twice and the Whitbread Childrens Book of the Year. She has been the Childrens Laureate and her work has been translated into 45 languages and made into films (Mrs Doubtfire) and radio.
The Douglas-Hamilton family is synonymous with elephant conservation. Save the Elephants, the leading conservation charity, was founded by Iain Douglas-Hamilton and his daughter the broadcaster and presenter Saba lives in Samburu and is a Director of the organisation. We are delighted to have the next generation of the Douglas-Hamilton's supporting our campaign. Saba and Frank Pope, the conservationist and author, have three daughters - Luna, Sielke
- who have all done wonderful sketches for us.
Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent is a travel writer and ladyventurer with a particular love of wandering alone through remote regions. She has driven a tuk-tuk back to the UK from Thailand, ridden 3000-miles around the Black Sea on a zebra print motorcycle and nearly froze to death whilst attempting to reach the Russian Arctic on an old Ural. She has supported Sketch for Survival and our campaign despite being charged by a baby elephant in Tanzania!
David Bedford is a successful children's author, with over 70 books to his name. Among them are the best-sellers Big Bear, Little Bear, Mole's In Love and Roo the Roaring Dinosaur. Altogether, David's books have been translated in more than 35 countries around the world, from Iceland to Australia, Brazil to Thailand, and many places in between.
Lois has been described by the Telegraph as one of the greatest women travellers and explorers. Giving up a successful career in music in her late 20's she has embarked on a series of journeys covering the Americas, Africa and the Middle East. Liz is a well-known TV presenter with a Masters in Wild Animal Biology. Amongst others she has presented Bang goes the Theory and Atargazing Live for the BBC. She has also worked on Operation Snow Tiger, Big Blue Live and Super Smart Animals. We are delighted that Liz has supported our Sketch for Survival campaign.
Laura Bingham is a British adventurer, having travelled extensively in her early adulthood. Her biggest adventures to date include sailing the Atlantic in 2014 and cycling across South America in 2016 with no money.
Bill Nighy is a leading British actor who has performed and starred in many plays including several at the National Theatre. He has appearing in over 60 films and many radio and TV productions. The films include Love Actually, Harry Potter, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Their Finest. He has won numerous awards including a Golden Globe.
